Help Desiring God Reach the Arab World

In the past year, much of the Arabic-speaking world has found itself embroiled in fierce and often hostile conflict. Called by many the “Arab Spring," a series of uprisings have sparked in countries across North Africa and the Middle East, due largely to the problems of poverty combined with rising prices, lack of job opportunities for young workers, and growing anger at personal enrichment among the politically elite.

The result is that there are huge dangers for this part of the world — and huge opportunities. The greatest of these opportunities is an incredible opening for the gospel of Jesus Christ to spread.

80,000 Visits the Past 12 Months

The Internet is one of the most effective means God has given us for publishing the good news. It is able to penetrate even the most difficult countries.

For example, during the past 12 months, the Desiring God website received a total of 80,000 visits from North Africa and the Middle East (18,000 more than the previous year). That’s from countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. The majority of these visits are most likely coming from English-language users, but some are also accessing a handful of translated sermons we currently have in Arabic.

The Need for Arabic Resources

Continuing to provide Arabic resources is crucial. It is the fourth largest global language, spoken by 221 million people worldwide. Through translated web content there is potential for millions to read, listen to, and study the truth about Jesus in their own language.

Right now, by the grace of God, we are in a position to create an Arabic version of the Desiring God website, stocked with 52 sermons by John Piper on the most essential teachings of the Bible. The total cost for translating, proofing, and posting this content in Arabic is $8,500.

We Invite You to Join Us

Beginning now and throughout our National Conference this weekend, we invite you to join us in relieving theological famine among Arabic-speakers by giving towards this goal. Please visit our project donation page.

Jesus Christ is the only one who can bring lasting peace to the unrest of millions in the Arab world. Let us work to give them more access to his good news.
